The lone New Yorker on the Wolfpack roster

Strange, but true - junior Curtis Underwood, who could start at running back for N.C. State, is the only player from the state of New York on the Wolfpack roster.

Underwood, 5 feet 11 and 216 pounds, is from Lackawanna, N.Y. Tom O'Brien was recruiting him when O'Brien was at Boston College and stayed on him after moving to Raleigh. Underwood was a two-star recruit according to Scout.com in O'Brien's initial recruiting class that signed in February of 2007.

  1. Given the regionality of college sports, I'm not that surprised we only have one New Yorker. Just as I wouldn't imagine it that odd if there were only one North Carolinian on Syracuse's squad.

  2. In fact, there are zero North Carolinians on the current Syracuse roster. ... Of course, college programs tend to target certain areas to recruit. Chuck Amato went after Florida, Dick Crum harvested Ohio, Bill Dooley (while at UNC) worked Virginia hard. It's interesting that State has only one player from New York, rather than either five or zero.
